Is my donation tax deductible?
Donations to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations like WI are tax deductible. Please speak with your tax professional to determine how you will benefit.
What do I need to make a donation?
All you need are the keys and the title. If you cannot find the title, please call us and we can help you get the documents needed to make a donation.
What kind of condition does my donated item have to be in?
The vehicle does not have to be in running order for us to accept it; however, we do prefer the donation be intact. Occasionally, we will make an exception depending on the donation. Vehicle condition will affect the fair market value of your donation.
Can I deliver my donation?
Yes, you can drop off your donation at WI's office. A receipt will be issued to you at that time.
Will you pick up my donation?
Yes, we can arrange to have your donation picked up. We attempt to pick up donations within 24 hours of being contacted.
How is the value of my donation determined?
Donors have the option of claiming the amount WI sells the vehicle for or can choose a minimum alternative amount, which cannot exceed $500. You will receive a receipt that documents the gross proceeds raised from the sale of your donated item.
OR
Cars With Heart (the organization WI works with for these kinds of donations) may decide to complete material improvements to your vehicle. If this is done before the resale of the vehicle, the donor is required to make a good faith determination of the value of the vehicle at the time of the donation. Donors are encouraged to speak to their tax advisors to answer further questions.
