Tabitha Edwards, a north Minneapolis native, first engaged with Wilderness Inquiry as a participant on a Mississippi River Day Trip with a local community group. That experience sparked her interest with WI, and she stayed in touch by volunteering for trip pack-ins, soon becoming an intern and a staff member for 3 years. Her vibrancy and positive attitude permeated through all of her interactions as she became a part of the community that is Wilderness Inquiry. Within a few years, Tabitha joined everything from local trips on the Mississippi and Chain of Lakes to extended trips at Glacier National Park and the Missouri River.
During all experiences, Tabitha was a great inspiration to everyone she met. Her gung-ho attitude and warm and caring personality motivates all who know her. She has a great sense of humor that people love.
Remarkably, while Tabitha was working with Wilderness Inquiry, we did not know that she was homeless, sleeping under freeway overpasses and scrambling to make ends meet. Recently, she shared with us that she considered Wilderness Inquiry her home while she was homeless.
Tabitha recently graduated from high school and currently works at Target Corporation. She attributes her involvement with Wilderness Inquiry as a key part of her success. Tabitha claims, “even when bad things happen, you have to try to use those bad things in a positive manner and really just take the negative out of it.”
Tabitha teaches us all to approach challenges in life with strength, courage, and humor. Wilderness Inquiry is honored to be part of her incredible story. Best of luck to Tabitha in her future endeavors!
