Here at Wilderness Inquiry, campfires are practically synonymous with summertime. We believe the best use of a campfire is to make s’mores of course. But, we want to introduce you to a few variations of this traditional treat to try at home and then bring on the trail. We hope that you feel inspired to try out one (or all) of these recipes, and that you make the most out of this special time of year.
Graham crackers + Marshmallow + Carmello
This simple recipe is a twist on the traditional s’more. While you still have all of the basic ingredients (graham cracker, marshmallow, milk chocolate) the caramel adds a smooth texture and fun flavor. You can keep it to the three main ingredients, or you could add in a small piece of dark-chocolate to contrast the super sweet milk chocolate and caramel.
Graham crackers (crushed) + Marshmallow creme + Keebler Cookies
This recipe has an abundance of creative freedom, and does not even require heat. Crush a graham cracker in a closed Ziploc bag, and pour this into a small bowl with half a cup of marshmallow creme. Mix, then spread this concoction onto your favorite Keebler cookies, smushing them together to create a crunchy marshmallow sandwich.
Oreo cookies + Marshmallow creme + toppings
This recipe replaces the traditional graham cracker and instead combines the chocolate and the cookie into one crunchy ingredient! Try splitting the Oreo in half and spread marshmallow creme between the cookies. Another option would be to leave the use two now separated cookies open face (without a top) to make a bigger s’more. Get creative and add sprinkles, crushed nuts, or any of your favorite toppings to the marshmallow creme!
Nilla Wafers + Marshmallow + Nutella
What’s fantastic about this recipe is how similar in taste it is to the traditional s’more, but these ingredients are just unique enough to give it a twist. Roast a small marshmallow, and stick it between two Nilla Wafers with a Nutella spread.
Time to make s’more s’mores!
