Overview
Located in Wisconsin’s Northwoods covering one and a half million acres, Chequamegon (Shuh-WAH-muh-guhn)-Nicolet (Nick-oh-LAY) is an epicenter for outdoor recreation. The Hayward district on the western side of the national forest is about 3 hours east of the Twin Cities which makes it an excellent option for those who are used to heading north for such activities. Chequamegon comes from the Ojibwe word meaning “place of shallow water” which refers to Chequamegon Bay. There is ample shallow water to enjoy in the mainland as well!

On the first day, expect to set up camp alongside your Wilderness Inquiry Outdoor Leaders and peers. Take time to learn how to set up a safe and cozy campsite for the next two nights. After your basecamp is set-up, your group will head over to Bass Lake for an introduction to canoeing and water safety that will prepare you for the days ahead.
