Overview
The Kankakee River is a 133-mile tributary of the Illinois River in Northwestern Indiana and Northeastern Illinois. At one time, the river drained one of the largest wetlands in North America and furnished a significant portage between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River. The Kankakee is a popular destination for recreational canoeing and fishing for Hoosiers. Since 2014, Canoemobile has been connecting locals to this winding waterway.
