Give from Your IRA to Wilderness Inquiry
A gift from your IRA is a simple way to support Wilderness Inquiry while receiving tax benefits in return.
People who are 70½ years of age or older can give up to $108,000 annually directly from their IRA to a nonprofit of their choosing without having to pay income tax on that money. Sometimes referred to as an IRA charitable rollover or qualified charitable distribution (QCD), this option has a number of benefits for you:
- See Your Generosity in Action These gifts make an immediate impact on Wilderness Inquiry’s mission!
- No Income Tax IRA gifts don’t count as taxable income or a tax deduction, so even if you don’t itemize your deductions, you benefit from making the gift.
- Satisfy Your Minimum Distribution Once you turn 73 years of age, an IRA gift can satisfy some or all of your required minimum distribution.
- Reduce Your Annual Income Level These gifts don’t count toward your annual income, which can mean lower Medicare premiums and a decreased amount of taxable Social Security.
An IRA charitable rollover to Wilderness Inquiry funds the same work as any other gift: guided outdoor trips, adaptive equipment, and financial aid that make time outside possible for people of every age, background, and ability. IRA giving to youth outdoor programs supports trips like Canoemobile, while some donors direct IRA gifts go toward the trained guides and adaptive equipment that make mixed-ability trips possible.
For many donors, an IRA gift to support outdoor equity work is personal. Time in nature has a documented connection to lower stress and better mental health, and a qualified charitable distribution is a way to extend that experience to someone who might not otherwise get it.
